Lake Iznik, one of Turkey’s main freshwater sources, is drying rapidly as its shoreline retreats by up to 350 meters.

Underwater reed beds are now visible, and former boat launch areas have turned into stretches of dry mud.

Experts warn that poor water management and the diversion of feeder streams for irrigation are worsening the decline.

Aerial footage shows exposed piers and vast dry zones along the shrinking shoreline.

Authorities had imposed restrictions on agricultural irrigation from Lake Iznik during the summer season.
