- Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal has been named the Golden Boy for the second time in his career following an outstanding year for both club and country.
- Upon receiving the accolade at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Yamal surprisingly admitted that his Barcelona and Spain team-mate Pau Cubarsi deserved to win the award instead after playing at a top level.
- The 19-year-old forward is also vying for his first Ballon d’Or after winning the World Cup with Spain in the summer and recording 24 goals and 18 assists during Barcelona's LaLiga-winning season.
- Yamal has maintained his brilliant form into the current campaign, recording 20 goal contributions in 13 matches to help propel Barcelona to the top of the league.
- If he pips fellow contenders Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe to the award, he will become the first player since Lionel Messi to win both the Golden Boy and the Ballon d’Or on the same night.
