Landslide: 'No K9 dogs injured' - Norazam

The K9 tracker dog unit is among the unit deployed to find victims of the Batang Kali landslide.

BATANG KALI - No K9 tracker dog (K9) was injured during the search and rescue (SAR) operation for landslide victims at Father's Organic Farm, Jalan Genting here.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Director Datuk Norazam Khamis said K9s from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), police and Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) were brought for the SAR operation.

"For confirmation, no K9 was injured.

"So, we will bring all six K9s from the fire and rescue department, two from the police and one from the army which brought the total number of trackers dogs to nine for the SAR operation.

"All these K9 dogs have expertise in detecting bodies buried in the ground, under rocks or water," he said.

In the Friday morning incident, the landslide was estimated to involve up to 450,000 cubic meters of land.

A total of 94 victims were involved and of that number, 61 were reported safe while another 24 were confirmed dead and nine are still being sought.
