SERENDAH, June 21 - The Local Business Connect (LBC) programme has the potential to help reduce unemployment and job mismatch issues among young people, while also curbing the migration of workers to major urban centres.
Kuala Kubu Baharu state assemblyman Pang Sock Tao said it serves as a platform that connects local companies with skilled workers, ensuring that employment opportunities created through investments in Selangor can be enjoyed by local residents.
“The state government is continuously working to attract both domestic and international investment. When we see strong economic growth, we want to ensure that the benefits of that investment are felt by local communities.
“Today, the Social Security Organisation has brought more than 1,000 job opportunities, with over 50 per cent of them offering salaries of RM2,500 and above,” she said during the second series of the LBC Hulu Selangor programme at Dewan Komuniti Serendah yesterday.
Pang added that initiatives such as LBC are particularly important because many young people still face unemployment and employment opportunities that do not match their qualifications.
“The government’s role is to act as a bridge between local companies and local talent so that young people can benefit from the economic growth taking place.
“I hope programmes like this can be expanded further to ensure more young people gain access to quality employment opportunities,” she said.
Pang noted that Hulu Selangor is developing rapidly and has the potential to become a new economic hub which can provide more employment opportunities for local residents.
Economic growth in the district enables youths to build careers closer to home without migrating to Shah Alam, Klang, or other cities in search of better employment and income opportunities.
“Many residents want to know what employment opportunities are available in Hulu Selangor. Programmes such as this not only promote those opportunities but also provide real jobs for our young people.
“When local businesses grow and employment opportunities increase, the local economy will continue to expand as well,” she said.
Regarding investment developments in the area, Pang is optimistic that Hulu Selangor, particularly Kuala Kubu Baharu and Lembah Beringin, has strong economic prospects following the arrival of several strategic investments.
Aside from Chery Malaysia's investment in Lembah Beringin, another investment related to the electric vehicle industry is expected to be announced in the near future.
“I expect Kuala Kubu Baharu and Lembah Beringin to become more dynamic areas with strong economic potential for local residents.
“We not only want to see economic and industrial development, but also to ensure that Kuala Kubu Baharu remains a sustainable town renowned for its beauty and historical value,” she said.
