Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary-General Datuk Chin Shu Ying (pic) has called on the Federal Government to adopt a fair and practical approach in any diesel subsidy rationalisation measures affecting Sabah.
The Nominated Assemblyman said concerns had been raised by many Sabahans, particularly those in transportation, agriculture, fisheries, logistics, small businesses and rural economic activities, over discussions on the removal or restriction of subsidised diesel.
Chin said Sabah’s economy remains heavily dependent on long-distance transport and diesel-powered activities in rural and remote areas, adding that any reduction in subsidised diesel access would inevitably increase costs and burden businesses and consumers.
He said subsidy reforms must take into account Sabah’s geographical and economic realities, and be implemented through consultation to ensure a balanced approach between fiscal responsibility and the welfare of the people.
