LDP eyes Chinese-majority parliamentary seats

SANDAKAN: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is eyeing the opportunity to contest Chinese-majority parliamentary seats in Sabah under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) banner in the next general election.

Party president Datuk Chin Su Phin said LDP will seek to represent the state coalition in one or two of the three predominantly Chinese constituencies—specifically Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, or Tawau.

Officiating at the Sandakan Joint Divisional Conference 2026 on Sunday, Chin expressed confidence that the party's 30-year service record and commitment to the community would secure voter support and deliver victories for GRS.

Touching on national politics, he urged Malaysians to back the Unity Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to complete its full term until next year, dismissing calls from opponents for early parliamentary dissolution as self-serving.

Chin added that Sabah voters should consolidate their support behind local-based coalitions to capture all 25 parliamentary seats, enabling Sabah and Sarawak to form a decisive political bloc to bargain effectively for greater autonomy.
