Scottie Scheffler has unquestionably been the best golfer on the planet over the past few years.

Scheffler’s record speaks for itself, with 20 PGA Tour wins to his name since February 2022, including four major championships.

And now Lee Trevino has explained how Scheffler has one specific strength that separates him from everyone else in the game.

Scottie Scheffler has spent 198 weeks at the top of the world rankings, with 168 of those coming consecutively.

Scheffler has still been the best golfer in the world in 2026, despite having only won once this season.

He has nine top-5 finishes to his name in 14 PGA Tour starts and hasn’t finished outside the top-25 in any event since August 2024.

The fact that some fans and analysts are questioning Scheffler’s form is testament to his unbelievable ability.

Lee Trevino says Scottie Scheffler does one thing better than any golfer

Trevino thinks Jack Nicklaus is the greatest golfer to have ever lived but the 86-year-old from Garland, Texas, believes Scheffler is better than anyone else in the history of the game at doing one thing in particular.

When speaking to Golf Digest, Trevino divulged what he believes to be Scheffler’s real superpower.

“I don’t know of any weaknesses he has,” Trevino said.

“I like everything. Helluva chipper. I like that he went to the claw. Focus. How he can go up with those irons.

“Well, I guess Scottie has it all. He and Tiger both retired whatever I said. (that no golfer is complete)”.

“I’ll tell you the thing that Scottie has got more than anyone I’ve ever seen who is that good. He is at peace with himself. He doesn’t think and play golf 24/7 and worry about it like I did or Arnold did or Gary did, the way so many of us did.

He’s like Jack that way in that he can separate. It gives him a little extra, so when you talk about complete, that’s what really makes Scottie complete.”

Scottie Scheffler’s greatness is born from his attitude to winning

Scheffler undoubtedly has the ability to separate his professional life from his personal one.

He actually caused some controversy before the Open Championship last year, when he questioned why he wants to win so much, when the thrill of his triumphs only last for a minute or two.

“Why do I want to win the Open Championship so badly? I don’t know. Because if I win, it’s going to be awesome for about two minutes,” he said.

The most important things to Scottie Scheffler are his family and his faith. Golf comes third in his list of priorities and, as Lee Trevino says, that’s what makes him so good.

While failing to win clearly annoys the 30-year-old, his records in the game do not define him as a person.

He is able to leave the professional side of his life on the golf course, whereas many of the greatest players in the game are not.
