Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s second-half equaliser extended Manchester United’s winless Premier League run to five matches as they were held 1-1 by rivals Leeds United at Elland Road.
Bryan Mbeumo stole in to fire the visitors into a half-time lead, but Leeds hit back early in the second period through Calvert-Lewin’s thumping finish.
Leeds fans held high hopes of securing their first home win over the Red Devils in 45 years after Michael Carrick’s side had won only one of their previous six league games this season.
There was little in terms of quality on show from either side in a full-blooded derby clash, but Carrick will have no complaints about his players’ application as they matched Leeds’ intensity to earn a deserved point.

Maguire hails visitors' change of shape but calls for more bravery
17:30 , Alan Smith"We worked on it this week,” he told Sky. “We wanted to match them up without the ball and go quite aggressive.
"We knew we could get a lot of joy in the middle of the pitch with them only playing two in there.
"That's probably the area of the game where we could have done more. We could have been a bit braver with the ball and taken the ball under pressure.
"But we're in a circumstance where we are not as brave as we should be, and we have to get that back because to win games for Manchester United we have to have that bravery and composure."

Farke 'slightly disappointed' by draw
16:45 , Alan Smith"We are slightly disappointed it is just a point,” he told Sky. “Overall, I felt it was not necessary to be losing at half time but it is still Manchester United.
“Second half, we got the equaliser. We should have kept up the dominance, too many strikes went over the crossbar but it was overall a solid performance. We should have won the game but we move on.
"We took it as a compliment that we have done many things right over the last month if we were seen as favourites against Manchester Untiedbut we have earned this. We wanted to prove the comments right.
"We were the dominant side but we couldn't capitalise as we lacked quality in and around the box.
"It says a lot about how much respect we have earned. Overall, this is where we are at the moment and overall, it is a good place to be.
"It is still difficult in this league to win points. You have to be clinical and be very, very effective but we have to keep going."
Calvert-Lewin's snap reaction
16:16 , Alan SmithDominic Calvert-Lewin, whose goal earned a point, has been speaking to Sky Sports.
"More so just be more confident in possession and choices when to cross and when to keep the ball, I think it was down to that,” he says of the half-time message.
"They tried to [match our formation]. Not really surprised given what happened last season. It took us a little bit to adjust but it was mainly down to us and maybe a lack of quality in the final third.
"They are still a very good team with a lot of quality, regardless of the outside noise. We are so used to it as players.
"I just tried to cause a ruckus. I just make it difficult for the defender. I read the flight of the ball and was quickest to react.
"I feel really comfortable. I feel the support from the club and the fans and it is a great feeling stepping onto the pitch, particularly at Elland Road."
He adds of their overall start to the campaign: "We have to be pleased. I think we could have been better in pivotal moments but it could also gone against us in pivotal moments."

Carrick's Farke losing streak at an end
16:10 , Alan SmithThe Manchester United head coach had lost all five of his previous meetings against his Leeds counterpart. At least that has ended.
Manchester United stumble on
15:56 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadThat could have been the game Manchester United turned a corner. Instead, it wasn't. They lost another lead, conceded another set-piece goal and did too little to win it after Dominic Calvert-Lewin levelled. So United stumble on, six without a win in all competitions.
FULL-TIME! Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:53 , Alan SmithIt ends level, which is about right following a match that saw two committed teams fail to produce a huge amount of top level stuff.
The pressure eases on Carrick, Leeds’ wait to beat their visitors at Elland Road will drag on to another season.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:52 , Alan Smith93’ - The set piece is unable to yield an opportunity.
Is there one more chance to come? Probably not.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:51 , Alan Smith92’ - Ampadu is finally booked for clattering Amad’s right shin. Santos appears to have been shown a yellow for reacting angrily too.
The result is a chance for Fernandes to pump in a deep free kick.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:50 , Alan Smith91’ - Some real ping-pong in the Manchester United box as they struggle to deal with a flurry of balls in. Lammens eventually smothers after parrying an initial attempt that leads to Mazraoui blocking a rebound.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:49 , Alan Smith90’ - There will be four added minutes.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:49 , Alan Smith90’ - Dalot makes a sublime challenge to deny Calvert-Lewin just outside the penalty area on Leeds right flank. The home fans are furious but it looks a top tackle on first watch.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:47 , Alan Smith88’ - Manchester United are pushing for a late winner all of a sudden but Fernandes has seen a shot blocked and Amad has blasted high and wide.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:44 , Alan Smith84’ - Cunha is on for Tielemans. Could the Brazilian have a decisive impact?
Draw specialists
15:40 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadThese could be two teams who draw a lot of games this season, Leeds because they are hard to beat but, Calvert-Lewin aside, don't have too many scorers and Manchester United because they find it hard to beat anyone. But maybe that will all change in the next 10 or 15 minutes.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:39 , Alan Smith81’ - Longstaff is in for Tanaka.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:39 , Alan Smith79’ - It’s becoming a bit tense. While the intensity level remains high, the lack of quality remains notable.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:35 , Alan Smith76’ - Mount’s first act is to scuff a shot well wide from a well-worked set-piece routine that sees Fernandes accept a short corner and shift it along the edge of the area for the substitute to mishit.
United's other subs unlikely to appear soon
15:34 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadMason Mount has just come on but looking down at the touchline the other Man Utd substitutes are not warming up as much as just standing and watching the game. That doesn't suggest Cunha, Zirkzee or De Ligt will be on soon.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:33 , Alan Smith74’ - Subs for both.
Nmecha replaces Okafor and Mount is on for Baleba.
A sign that both teams are going for it a bit more?
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:31 , Alan Smith72’ - Stach snaps over after Okafor’s cross is headed partially away by Dalot. It’s a good a chance for Leeds in a half where there have been very few good ones aside from the leveller.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:29 , Alan Smith70’ - Not long after play restarts Tanaka goes into the back of Santos, giving away a foul.
Amad then comes back on after seeing out his minute for having medical treatment.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:27 , Alan Smith68’ - Tanaka slides in, winning the ball before meeting Amad’s left ankle, and the visiting wide man needs some treatment.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:24 , Alan Smith65’ - Yoro intercepts following some loose Leeds play and squares to Fernandes but his shot is scuffed wide.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:22 , Alan Smith63’ - Leeds have earned a nother corner. This one sees players from both sides end up lying on the ground and Leeds want a penalty with Ampadu claiming Maguire had dragged him to the ground.
Replays show there was contact but VAR has signalled to play on. Regardless, Manchester United look a mess when defending set-pieces.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:21 , Alan Smith62’ - DCL and Mazraoui share some words, give each other a nudge and the referee warns both to calm down.
Momentum swings in hosts' favour
15:20 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadMore than most grounds, Elland Road can have a momentum which carries everyone along with it. Now Leeds are on top on the pitch and, almost more importantly, there is a sense of that momentum in the atmosphere. It is a real test for Manchester United.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:18 , Alan Smith59’ - Baleba shoots well wide from a pointless distance. Leeds fans cheer, though at least it’s an attempt from the away team.
Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd
15:16 , Alan Smith58’ - Leeds are pushing for a lead goal. Gudmundsson causes havoc with an outswinger from the left that Maguire eventually hooks away.
Familiar issues
15:12 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadMore set-piece problems in Yorkshire for Manchester United, who conceded two goals from dead-ball situations against Hull.
GOAL! Leeds Utd 1-1 Man Utd (Calvert-Lewin 51)
15:11 , Alan SmithAnd from the set-piece Leeds are level. Muharemovic outleaps Mazraoui to win the first ball, knocking it down to DCL. He controls it well with his chest to earn some space under pressure from Mbeumo and the England striker swipes home.
That half-time sub, even if enforced, has not paid off...
Leeds Utd 0-1 Man Utd
15:09 , Alan Smith51’ - Now we have a Leeds corner, conceded by Mazraoui.
Leeds Utd 0-1 Man Utd
15:08 , Alan Smith49’ - Plenty of Leeds possession to start the half but they are not going anywhere interesting so far.
Restarted! Leeds Utd 0-1 Man Utd
15:05 , Alan SmithWe’re back underway.
It did look like Martinez picked up a knock early on so presumably his removal is owing to that rather than a tactical decision. Yoro has shifted into the centre back thanks to that substitution.

Carrick's men halfway to result of season so far
14:53 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadMichael Carrick had said the Manchester United players were galvanised by the events of the last week. Just maybe he was right. They are half way to their best result of the season.
Half-time! Leeds Utd 0-1 Man Utd
14:48 , Alan SmithThat’s the interval. It’s been feisty and high-speed but Mbeumo’s one bit of quality has put them in front at the end of period in which they have found some real defensive resilience.
Leeds Utd 0-1 Man Utd
14:46 , Alan Smith45’ - There will be two added minutes.
Leeds Utd 0-1 Man Utd
14:44 , Alan Smith44’ - Stach nudges into the side of Fernandes and the Manchester United captain goes down. It’s much ado about nothing.
Tielemans makes his impact
14:43 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadUnited have struggled to work out what to do with Tielemans in his brief time at the club, with his quality on the ball offset by his lack of mobility off it. But he has delivered a couple of brilliant crosses from the right. Mbeumo perhaps should have scored from the first and did from the second.
Leeds Utd 0-1 Man Utd
14:43 , Alan Smith42’ - Bogle, Leeds’ most notable performer so far, weaves in again but he is eventually crowded out.
Leeds Utd 0-1 Man Utd
14:40 , Alan Smith40’ - For all the talk about Manchester United’s lack of defensive depth, the back four on here have done a pretty good job of keeping Calvert-Lewin very quiet. So far, at least...
Leeds Utd 0-1 Man Utd
14:37 , Alan Smith37’ - In response Tanaka pings a shot that Lammens saves well.
GOAL! Leeds Utd 0-1 Man Utd (Mbeumo 35)
14:36 , Alan SmithAnd the away side are in front. Having spurned two good chances, the forward takes his third after getting on the end of Tielemans low delivery from the right following good work from Amad in the build-up.
That has - momentarily, at least - silenced Elland Road.
Visitors' counter success
14:35 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadManchester United are starting to look for balls over the Leeds defence when Daniel Farke's side push up more. Counter-attacking has tended to be their best form of attack in recent years and, while this is hardly a quick team, Mbeumo and Amad are two of their quicker players.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:34 , Alan Smith34’ - With a swift counter Fernandes sets Amad away on the right but Trafford races out to make a brave and smart slide. If he missed it, Leeds would have been in massive trouble.
A moment later Mbeumo is set away by Tielemans but he dawdles a bit, loses momentum and then shoots straight at the Leeds goalkeeper. “England’s No.1,” comes the chant.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:33 , Alan Smith32’ - Yoro nods away another cross, this one from Ampadu. He has been excellent so far.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:32 , Alan Smith32’ - Bogle dribbles in menacingly from the right, past Dalot and Martinez, but he eventually runs out of space and a promising move ends with a goal kick.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:30 , Alan Smith30’ - Yoro is down after a small nudge from Calvert-Lewin. He lands heavily but will be fine to continue.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:28 , Alan Smith27’ - And a minute later, Manchester United have their first proper attempt as Tielemans lofts a ball towards Mbeumo but his header zooms wide. That has to be on target. It’s a big let off for Leeds.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:27 , Alan Smith26’ - Now a chance...Stach whips a dead ball in from the right, Elvedi meets it with his head and powers it downwards but Lammens does well to palm away on the upward bounce.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:26 , Alan Smith25’ - Bogle pings in another fine cross which Yoro - for a fourth time - heads away. Leeds are well on top and yet unable to fashion a clear sight of the away team’s goal.
Now the crowd is up
14:20 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadElland Road wasn't at its loudest today... until Bruno Fernandes slid in on Tarik Muharemovic. Perhaps not the wisest thing to do, and not merely because he got booked
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:20 , Alan Smith19’ - Now Gudmundsson is booked for tripping Santos. It’s a straightforward call but that does not stop Leeds fuming away themselves.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:18 , Alan Smith18’ - When play eventually stops Fernandes is indeed booked. He’s furious after being shown the yellow too, mouthing away at the official.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:17 , Alan Smith16’ - The frantic nature of the game is being helped by the referee allowing a lot of play to continue. Fernandes has just flown into Muharemovic and it probably deserves a yellow card but the match continues.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:14 , Alan Smith14’ - This is a compelling watch for those who enjoy 110mph action but we’ve not yet seen that much top quality play.
It’s now 3-0 to Brighton, by the way, thanks to a halfway line stunner from Diego Gomez. The short trip home could be a very long one for the Palace fans this evening.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:12 , Alan Smith11’ - Ampadu commits another foul and is very, very lucky not to see a yellow card having clattered into the back of Mbeumo. For a moment it looks like Fernandes might try his luck just over 30 yards from goal but he tries clip it up for Maguire and Leeds head out for a throw in.
Goals elsewhere
14:11 , Alan SmithWhile we wait for this game to really take off, there have been early goals in the other matches - Brighton lead 2-0 against Palace, Bournemouth are goal in front against Sunderland.
Carrick's shift
14:08 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadOkay, it now looks like United have gone into a back five. Or even an Amorim-esque 3-4-3...
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:07 , Alan Smith6’ - Leeds are pinning their visitors back at the moment, with Carrick’s team sitting deep. Bogle swings another couple of crosses in which Yoro twice heads away.
Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:05 , Alan Smith4’ - It’s been a typically high-intensity start with no real pattern yet. Bogle has a cross from the right headed away and then Ampadu flies in on Tielemans before following up with another big challenge on Baleba, which does produce a whistle from referee Darren England. Leeds fans cheer their captain for his tenacity.
No striker for visitors
14:02 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadSo it looks as though Manchester United have no centre-forward, with Tielemans and Fernandes as twin No 10s, Mbeumo left and Amad right
Kick-off! Leeds Utd 0-0 Man Utd
14:00 , Alan SmithAnd we’re off! The visitors kick off, playing right to left as we view in red tops, black shorts and socks. Leeds are in all white.
The teams kneel before kick-off, there are some boos. Once Tielemans kicks off the boos become a lot louder.
Almost time
13:57 , Alan SmithThe teams are out, the Premier League music is booed but we’re moments away from what promises to be a spicy clash.
The scene of Amorim's outburst
13:45 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadElland Road is the scene of Ruben Amorim's last stand. Or last outburst in a press conference, anyway. The chances are that Michael Carrick will be duller after the final whistle today. United may welcome that after Lisandro Martinez's comments this week.
Carrick on his selection decisions
13:39 , Alan SmithSpeaking to Sky, Carrick says of the opportunity that awaits today: “It’s a fantastic game for sure. We’ve come here to play well and try to win the game. It’s a challenging place to come, of course is it is, but we’re in a good place to attack it.”
On selecting Martinez: “I said it, what’s done is done and we’ve moved on. We know their threats and strengths, we’ve got some as well.”
On the absent Shaw and Mainoo: “Closeish but not close enough. It is what it is. You’ve got to adapt, to adjust and we have to be versatile at times.”
On the midfield balance: “We have good balance throughout the team, whatever way we set up we have flexibility. It’s a fantastic game, I repeat it, it’s a game we’re massively looking forward to. Spirits are good.”
Leeds' long wait
13:33 , Alan SmithIt’s is 24 years since Leeds last beat their rivals at Elland Road, when Harry Kewell scored the only goal midway through the second half. (Wins at Old Trafford in cup and league have followed since)
And at the time it made for Manchester United’s worst start to a Premiership (as it was known then) season.
Should Farke’s team end their long wait, it would also worsen what is now the visitors’ lamest start to a top-flight campaign since the rebrand.
Elsewhere today
13:20 , Alan SmithThere are two other 2pm kick-offs this Sunday with Bournemouth hosting Sunderland (what an away trip that is, by the way...) while Brighton host Crystal Palace in El Gatwicko.
Nottingham Forest welcome Arsenal in the later kick-off.
Farke plays down favourites tag
13:15 , Alan SmithThe form book and home advantage may suggest that Leeds are slight favourites today but Daniel Farke is not buying that.
"I'm not sure if we're a favourite," he said in his pre-match press conference. "I know how the perception is. We had a brilliant start to this new season and are in a really good position.
“And yes, perhaps Manchester United found it tough to win the last matches. But nevertheless, if you have a look at the squads, if you have a look how long they spent on Premier League level, you have to say that they are definitely not the underdog in a game against Leeds United."
Carrick backs Rashford to come good
13:10 , Alan SmithMarcus Rashford, yet to score or assist since he return, is on the bench for United today. He has been managing a minor hip injury and Carrick is backing him to come good.
“Marcus has done a lot of good things,” Carrick in his pre-match press conference. “He obviously had a slight injury when he pulled out of England. We had to manage that a little bit.
“He’s not quite getting that little bit of a break. But he is putting himself in good positions and having some opportunities.
“If he keeps doing the right things, he will get the rewards in the end.”
Preparations underway
13:05 , Luke BakerWe’re just under an hour from kick-off and preparations are ramping up at Elland Road

Carrick sticks to his guns
13:00 , Richard Jolly at Elland RoadMichael Carrick looks to be sticking with the same set-up he used in Madrid on Tuesday, with Bruno Fernandes playing off the right and Youri Tielemans operating as a No 10. It looks like Diogo Dalot is playing left-back. And Lisandro Martinez, after his outspoken criticisms of Jason Wilcox and apology of sorts, starts.
Leeds team news
12:58 , Luke BakerThe Leeds line-up is much more as predicted with the usual back three (while Joe Rodon is injured anyway) and JAyden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson flanking them.
Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu are in the engine room with Anton Stach and Noah Okafor providing attacking support to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Dan James isn’t deemed fit enough for the bench but the likes of Harry Wilson, Lukas Nmecha and Max Aaronson provide decent options

Lisandro Martinez apologises for angry outburst at Man United hierarchy
12:38 , Luke BakerOn Thursday evening, Lisandro Martinez apologised for his rant about sporting director Jason Wilcox after holding clear-the-air talks with the Manchester United hierarchy and manager Michael Carrick.
The defender admitted he was wrong to vent his feelings in a series of extraordinary interviews after Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid, when he said he expected more from Wilcox and more investment, while complaining Carrick’s squad was not the best compared to other leading clubs.
United consider the matter is closed and have not disclosed if Martinez has been fined for his comments, which he claimed stemmed from frustration of another loss amid the club’s slow start to the season.
It was a distraction that United probably could have done without...

Early Leeds team news
12:31 , Luke BakerAs for Leeds, they look set to receive a boost with ex-Man United winger Dan James set to return from injury, although he’ll likely be used from the bench.
Mateo Joseph remains out with an ACL injury, while Joe Rodon is still a few weeks away from returning to action as well.
Noah Okafor and Anton Stach could provide dual support to Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top, while the three-man backline of James Justin, Nico Elvedi and Tarik Muharemovic looks set to continue with Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson roaming forward as the wing-backs.
Predicted Leeds XI: Trafford; Muharemovic, Elvedi, Justin; Bogle, Ampadu, Tanaka, Gudmundsson; Stach, Okafor; Calvert-Lewin
Early Man United team news
12:17 , Luke BakerWe’ll find out the team line-ups in about 30 minutes time but we already know that Man United will be without Benjamin Sesko and Patrick Dorgu, while Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo are severe doubts with reports suggesting they haven’t travelled to Elland Road.
The air has supposedly been cleared with Lisandro Martinez after his explosive comments about the United hierarchy in midweek, so he should start in the heart of defence, while Bruno Fernandes should be back in the No 10 role after playing deeper against Atletico and Bryan Mbeumo could shift back out wide to accommodate Matheus Cunha up tip.
Predicted Man United XI: Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot; Tielemans, Baleba; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Rashford; Cunha
Leeds off to a flying start
12:05 , Luke BakerAcross the Pennines, it has been a very promising start to the season for Leeds as they look to build on last term’s 14th-place finish.
They were unbeaten through their first five Premier League games before suffering a narrow 2-1 loss away to reigning champions Arsenal last weekend. No shame in that though and they’re still nicely positioned in eighth spot.
Victory today would lift them to fifth, so Daniel Farke will be feeling good about things at Elland Road
