In a distinguished ceremony held at the Conference Hall within the esteemed Palace of Justice, two eminent Court of Appeal Judges, namely Datuk Hanipah Farikullah and Datuk Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera, were formally sworn in as Federal Court judges, marking a significant milestone in their illustrious legal careers.

The swearing-in event, presided over by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, was a testament to the judiciary's commitment to excellence and integrity. Both Hanipah, aged 64, and Vazeer Alam, aged 62, took their oaths with a sense of solemnity and dedication, embracing their new roles as arbiters of justice within the Federal Court.

Originally hailing from Besut, Terengganu, Hanipah Farikullah's journey to the Federal Court bench has been characterized by a steadfast commitment to upholding the principles of fairness and equity. Her tenure as a Court of Appeal judge, which commenced on April 27, 2018, saw her presiding over several landmark cases, including the appeal of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor concerning the appointment of the late Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram as lead prosecutor in a high-profile corruption case. Additionally, Hanipah's involvement in Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's appeal further showcased her legal acumen and impartiality.

Similarly, Datuk Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera, whose appointment to the Court of Appeal dates back to Aug 8, 2019, brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise. His judicious leadership in cases involving corruption allegations against prominent figures, such as former Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, highlights his unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law. Furthermore, Vazeer Alam's pivotal role in adjudicating the murder case of Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan underscores his dedication to ensuring justice for victims and their families.

Amidst the induction of the two Federal Court judges, the ceremony also witnessed the ascension of three judicial commissioners – Su Tiang Joo, Alexander Siew How Wai, and Amelati Parnell – to the esteemed positions of High Court judges.

Su Tiang Joo, a seasoned legal practitioner born in Muar, Johor, has demonstrated a profound dedication to his judicial duties, earning him accolades and respect within the legal fraternity. His transition from a judicial commissioner in the High Court of Ipoh, Perak, to a High Court judge in Kuala Lumpur reflects his unwavering commitment to justice and fairness.

Alexander Siew How Wai, a native of Sandakan, Sabah, has carved a niche for himself in the legal landscape through his landmark decisions and unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law. His pivotal role in advocating for the implementation of Undi18, allowing for the judicial review of amendments to the Federal Constitution, underscores his dedication to fostering democratic principles and youth participation in governance.

Meanwhile, Amelati Parnell, a proud Sarawakian, has traversed a distinguished career path, starting as a magistrate in Kuching before ascending to the position of judicial commissioner in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Her recent transfer to the Bintulu High Court, Sarawak, underscores her continued dedication to dispensing justice across different regions of Malaysia.

In conclusion, the swearing-in ceremony heralds a new chapter in Malaysia's legal landscape, marked by the elevation of distinguished judges and the emergence of promising legal leaders. As these esteemed individuals assume their roles within the Federal Court and High Court, they reaffirm the judiciary's unwavering commitment to upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law for all citizens.
