SEN. Loren Legarda filed for medical leave from Aug. 11 to 12, Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. confirmed Tuesday as the chamber continues impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Bantug said Legarda's office gave notice of the senator's absence.
“Yes. Senator Loren Legarda’s office wrote to me today to inform me that ‘Senator Legarda will be on medical leave from 11 to 12 August 2026,’” he said in a message.
Legarda also took a medical leave in August. At the time, she said her medical leave should not be linked to allegations concerning her reported travel and stressed that she remained focused on her duties as a senator.
The latest notice from her office did not disclose the nature of her medical condition or treatment.
The Senate has not indicated if Legarda's absence will affect the continuation of the trial.
Under the rules governing impeachment proceedings, the trial may proceed with the required quorum even when individual senators are absent.
Legarda's office did not say if the senator will return to the impeachment court immediately after her two-day medical leave or whether any further leave will be requested.
