Bayer Leverkusen have signed another talent in the form of Afonso Moreira who arrives from French side Olympique Lyon.

The Bundesliga club said that the Portuguese under-21 international has signed a five-year contract until 2031. The transfer fee is reportedly €32 million ($37 million).

Moreira, 21, is the second youngster joining Leverkusen under new coach Carles Martinez. Last week the 2024 German double winners signed 16-year-old German super talend Kennet Eichhorn for a reported €9 million.

“Afonso Moreira is a fast, agile and skilful attacker with the ability to finish and he has an excellent eye for his team-mates,” Leverkusen managing director for sport Simon Rolfes said.

“His pace and intense style of play are a perfect fit for our team. With Afonso, we are gaining extra firepower and creativity in attack."

Moreira scored eight goals and had 11 assists in 327 Lyon matches in the past season.

"I felt this club is a perfect fit for my sporting ambitions,” he said. "The club management set out a clear path for me, took a close look at my situation and my targets, and made it clear that they firmly believe in my potential."
