Lewis Hamilton says Charles Leclerc beef is 'squashed' after Ferrari talks

Lewis Hamilton says the row with Charles Leclerc is over after team principal Fred Vasseur brought the pair together for talks on Thursday evening.

Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, had questioned Leclerc's mentality after his team-mate overtook him on the first lap in Mexico last weekend.

He kept up the attack when he arrived in Brazil, vowing not to be silenced. However, he delivered a different message on Saturday.

“Me and Charles, we sat and spoke and we squashed it and we’re moving on. I think we still have a huge amount of respect for each other,” Hamilton told Sky Sports.

"I'm glad we had a chat and now we move on. We've been getting along just fine, as normal.

“So sometimes in those scenarios, it just takes having a conversation and there’s been no demands from either side. It’s just been both giving our points and areas that we can do better and support each other.”

Hamilton had demanded “serious talks” with the team after last weekend, and again demanded a written rule of engagement to govern how they race each other.

Leclerc, for his part, arrived late in Sao Paulo because he was attending the birth of his first child, Bianca.

He says the new arrival put the row with Hamilton into perspective, and believes the matter became bigger than it was.

“At the end of the day, when things like this week happen for me, you forget about everything,” Leclerc told written media.

"I mean, the time where I've had Bianca in my arms, there wasn't much more or much else in my head.

"And that's been the case until probably Thursday night when I arrived and when it was time to speak with Fred and Lewis.

“So, yeah, it was a very special moment. And for sure it helps you put into perspective. But these discussions are also important and what we do on track is important.”

The two drivers will start Sunday's race in Brazil from different ends of the grid, with Hamilton at the back and Leclerc 14th after engine penalties handed out on Saturday.
