Li Jane strikes it lucky, bags Singapore Open bowling title

KUALA LUMPUR – National bowler Sin Li Jane emerged champion in the women’s category of the 53rd Singapore International Open 2023 championship at the Singapore Bowling @ Rifle Range today.

Bowling Malaysia, in a Facebook post, said the 30-year-old bowler snatched her fourth Singapore Open title by defeating Singapore’s Shirlene Wong to walk away with a S$15,000 (RM51,507.03) prize.

Before entering the final, Li Jane was only in second spot of the competition with 1,748 pinfalls while Shirlene had 1,808 pinfalls in the second Masters round.

However, the Malaysian bounced back to beat Shirlene 227-193 and 195-178 in the first and second matches of the final round.

Li Jane had won the title in 2010, 2013 and 2014.

However, national men’s bowler Timmy Tan failed to win the men’s title when he was ousted by Sweden’s Kim Bolleby 184-213 in the first match of the final round. – Bernama, June 10, 2023
