
Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will work towards fielding its candidates in three winnable seats under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the upcoming Sabah state election (PRN).
Its President Datuk Chin Su Phin said the party would make every effort to negotiate with the Chief Minister also the GRS Chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, as well as the coalition’s Supreme Council, to secure representation in three state seats.
“These three seats are highly winnable, given that the party has been serving these constituencies for many years,” he said, adding that a public survey indicated the chances of victory are extremely high for LDP candidates contesting under the GRS banner.
“We are confident of securing a win for GRS in these three state seats,” Chin stated.
However, he said, the final decision would be based on discussions with the GRS Chairman and the Supreme Council.
In the event that LDP is not allocated the three seats, Chin emphasised that the party would accept and support any decision made in the best interest of the coalition and the people.
“LDP will support the GRS component parties contesting these seats under the coalition’s banner,” Chin affirmed after chairing the second Supreme Council meeting for the 2024-2027 term on Sunday.
In another development, the Supreme Council has appointed Public Complaints Bureau Chief Jacky Chin Vun Pheaw as Vice President and a member of the Political Bureau, while retired lawyer Peggy Liow was appointed as a Supreme Council member.
Vice President Yii Ming Seng has been tasked with heading the Social Issues Action Bureau, while Simon Chin will oversee the Government Agency Liaison Bureau and serve as an advisor to the Publicity, Information, and Multimedia Bureau. Additionally, Jacky and Nicholas Ban have been appointed to lead the restructuring of the Sulaman and Petagas divisions, respectively.
The meeting also saw the appointment of Secretary-General Datuk Chin Shu Ying to chair the party’s 17th PRN Committee. David Ong and Sim Fui will coordinate the West Coast Division, Robert Chong will oversee the Sandakan Division, Wong Min Kong will handle the Tawau Division, and Ng Tet Hau will manage the Interior Division.
Chin reiterated that LDP would work diligently to secure a victory for GRS, as he believes the coalition is the best choice for Sabahans.
He urged voters to strongly support GRS candidates in the upcoming state election, ensuring the coalition’s continued governance and Sabah’s progress.
