Kota Kinabalu: Datuk Seri Christina Liew reminded Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah, especially Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), to remember their humble roots in the opposition 25 years ago.

“We set up the first PKR here and then a few years later we had our Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

“At the time when I was appointed as the PH Chairperson, we were still in the opposition. We went through very difficult times and challenges but held strongly. We were very united,” she told reporters.

Christina lost the seat by three votes to United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation President Datuk Ewon Benedick following a PH Sabah meeting on Sunday.

“We are not the opposition now. We worked very hard and will continue to work hard. So my message to them after the election is to be humble, hardworking, united and strong.

“We are the federal and state government. Jangan sombong (don’t be prideful), people can feel it…PKR is still intact,” the Api-Api branch Chief said.

She also said losing the Sabah Pakatan Harapan chairmanship by a narrow margin does not equate to defeat.

“There is not much to say about the election outcome, it was clear. I lost by three votes.”

The recent election saw United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president Datuk Ewon Benedick replacing three-term Liew.

The result, she noted, caused some unease among Sabah PKR members.

“Some were confused because PKR was the original founder of Pakatan Harapan. Our journey has been challenging, especially during our years in Opposition. But we have always remained united and resilient,” said Liew

When asked about internal challenges, Liew reminded members that PKR has weathered worse.

“Whether in Opposition or government, our spirit remains the same. I encourage members to rebuild, respect the new leadership, and avoid unnecessary negativity. We respect the election results and will continue to support the government and our party’s agenda,” she added.
