Veteran DAP figure, Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, has called attention to Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad's apparent reversal of stance after being named the unofficial advisor to the co-operation group of four PAS-held states. Lim highlighted a passage from Dr. Mahathir's book, "Capturing Hope – The Struggle Continues for a New Malaysia," where the former prime minister attributed division among Malay Muslims to PAS' formation.

Lim pointed out the irony in Dr. Mahathir's new role, considering that PAS, led by Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, has been known to make sweeping allegations against DAP without substantial evidence. This includes labeling DAP as anti-Malay, anti-Islam, anti-royalty, and even communist.

Additionally, Lim referred to Hadi's speech in Parliament during the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) Mid-Term Review, where he alleged that Hadi was unhesitant in spreading misinformation about both current and historical events.

The announcement of Dr. Mahathir's appointment as the unofficial advisor to Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu reminded Lim of the sentiments expressed in Dr. Mahathir's book. According to Dr. Mahathir's writing, there was no significant division among Malay Muslims in Malaya until the formation of PAS. The party's declaration that those who didn't join were considered infidels (kafir) introduced a divisive element.

Furthermore, Dr. Mahathir highlighted Abdul Hadi as a primary cause of division among Malay Sunnis, citing Hadi's condemnation of Umno as kafir, which led to PAS members rejecting Umno imams during prayers.

Lim also commented on the recent rally backed by the Opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN), commending the police for their facilitation. However, he noted that the rally's turnout was deemed insufficient by the chief organizer.

The rally, which took place at the Kampung Baru Jamek Mosque, was organized in protest of alleged political interference in the corruption trial of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In a surprising turn of events, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar announced on Friday that Dr. Mahathir had been selected as the unofficial advisor to the four states under PN's jurisdiction.
