KUALA LUMPUR – 27 police reports have been lodged as of yesterday over alleged home damages believed to have been caused by shockwaves from aerial displays at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (Lima '25).

Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh said the reports would be thoroughly investigated before being forwarded to the relevant authorities.

“We have asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to carry out inspections. Once verified, the findings will be submitted to the organisers – the Defence Ministry and Global Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC) – to determine the appropriate category for action,” he said at a press conference on Lima '25 in Langkawi.

Fisol urged the public not to take advantage of the situation and expressed hope that all reports were genuine.

His remarks come amid viral social media posts showing shattered windows, allegedly caused by fighter jet shockwaves.

On Monday, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the ministry would not ignore public complaints on the damages, acknowledging that such incidents have occurred in past editions of Lima.

“Ideally, it shouldn’t happen. We’ll study why. There may be some impact. In the past, chickens died, things happened – but this time, it’s okay. We’ll look into it first,” he told reporters during a walkabout inspection.

Now in its 17th edition since 1991, Lima '25 will run for five days until May 24. – May 22, 2025
