Limited training facilities, Sports Ministry offers to help ABM

KUALA LUMPUR – Inadequate training facilities faced by the national badminton team at Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) have gained the attention of the Youth and Sports Ministry.

Its minister Hannah Yeoh, during her first official visit to ABM in Bukit Kiara here today, said she will hold discussions with the Malaysia Stadium Corporation for possibilities to offer existing infrastructure to provide adequate training facilities for the national players.

“With the limited training places, badminton players would have to manage their training time which may not be optimal and not suitable for them.

“That is why we need to solve this problem as soon as possible. That is my priority based on today's visit,” she said at a press conference.

It is understood that the elite junior squad would normally have their training sessions at Stadium Juara, Bukit Kiara.

However, they would not be able to continue their training there due to another sporting event taking place this month.

As such, the situation forced the squad to temporarily share the court at ABM with the seniors for the time being.

To accommodate each team, ABM has created a special timetable so as not to disturb each other's sessions. – The Vibes, February 10, 2023
