Sweden’s Charlie Lindh capped a remarkable comeback victory with an eagle on the final hole to secure his first Asian Tour title at the am green IGPL Bharath Classic in Morocco.
RABAT, June 8: Sweden’s Charlie Lindh produced a sensational final-round charge, capped by a dramatic eagle on the 18th hole, to claim his maiden Asian Tour title at the US$500,000 am green IGPL Bharath Classic in Morocco.
The 28-year-old carded a tournament-best eight-under-par 64 to finish on 18-under overall, overturning a three-shot overnight deficit and winning by four strokes.
Thailand’s Settee Prakongvech, who began the day in the lead, struggled to maintain his momentum and signed for a 71 to share second place at 14-under with American Charles Porter, who closed with a 66.
Lindh sealed victory in style after reaching the fringe of the final green in two shots before holing a 20-foot putt for eagle.
The Swede’s triumph came just a week after finishing runner-up at the Kolon Korea Open, continuing his impressive recent form.
“It feels good… feels really good,” said Lindh.
“I have been playing good coming into this week, and I have been very excited to play golf the last couple of months because the game has been feeling better.”
The victory earned Lindh a winner’s cheque of US$90,000 and lifted him to third in the Asian Tour Order of Merit standings ahead of next week’s International Series Morocco.
Porter looked set to challenge for the title after reaching 16-under through 17 holes but saw his hopes unravel with a costly double bogey on the last.
Thailand’s Sarit Suwannarut and England’s Sam Broadhurst shared fourth place at 13-under, while American Marcus Plunkett finished tied sixth alongside Thailand’s Poom Saksansin and Runchanapong Youprayong.
The tournament was co-sanctioned by the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL), with India’s Karandeep Kochhar emerging as the highest-placed IGPL player in tied ninth.
Moroccan Ayoub Lguirati finished as the leading home player in tied 13th place.
