Lionel Messi scored one goal and created another as Inter Miami beat Portland Timbers 2-0 to grab a first victory at their new stadium.
Miami had only managed three draws and a loss at the Nu Stadium, but they ended that run on Portland head coach Phil Neville's first clash with his former club.
The ex-England manager saw his current charges go close through Cole Bassett early on, after Messi had a chance parried by visiting goalkeeper James Pantemis.
Messi put the hosts ahead after 31 minutes, getting on the end of Telasco Segovia's flick to score his 13th goal of the season.
They doubled the advantage three minutes before the break when Messi beat two defenders before finding German Berterame to add a second via the post.
Despite the lead, Miami supporters' groups refrained from singing until the final few minutes as part of a protest against players not acknowledging their support in the new stadium.
