Kota Kinabalu: Lions Bazaar 4.0 is targeting RM250,000 in coupon sales to support community projects, including sponsoring 100 cataract surgeries for needy patients across Sabah.
Leo-Lion organising chairperson, Lanice Fo said RM200,000 worth of coupons had already been distributed as of Nov 1, reflecting encouraging support from sponsors, supporters and the community.
The two-day charity bazaar will be held on Nov 21 and 22 at The Good Club, Tanjung Aru, under the theme “Share the Joy, Share the Love”.
Besides restoring the sight of cataract patients, organisers also plan to donate Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to improve emergency preparedness and access to life-saving equipment in the community.
The initiative builds on the bazaar’s previous three editions, which helped more than 180 people with serious eye conditions, including patients requiring cataract surgery and corneal transplants.
Its community outreach has also included anti-drug awareness programmes for young people and post-disaster assistance to affected communities.
Beyond fundraising, this year’s bazaar will feature about 50 vendors offering food, beverages, desserts, pastries, handmade products and accessories.
Some are home-based business owners and young entrepreneurs who will be given an opportunity to showcase their products and reach more customers.
Among the activities planned are a pickleball tournament, a primary school singing contest and a Kids’ Zone. In collaboration with Alpro, health screening services will also be available on Nov 22, including muscle strength assessments and dry eye testing.
The organisers are encouraging the public to support the event by purchasing RM100 coupons, with proceeds helping fund its charitable projects while giving visitors an opportunity to support local businesses.
Those interested in purchasing coupons or obtaining further information may contact organising chairperson Lanice Fo at 0112-3782886 or visit the Facebook page Lions Bazaar Sabah.
