Live event to be held for Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday – here’s what to know

  • A star-studded live event will be held at London's Royal Albert Hall, hosted by Kirsty Young, to celebrate Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday.
  • Broadcasters including Sir Michael Palin, Steve Backshall, and Chris Packham will feature, reflecting on Sir David's immense impact and lasting legacy.
  • The evening will include performances by musicians such as Dan Smith from Bastille and Sigur Rós, alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra, playing scores from Sir David's Planet Earth series.
  • The 90-minute programme, titled 'David Attenborough’s 100 Years On Planet Earth', will air on his birthday, 8 May, , at 8.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
  • The BBC will also broadcast two other shows to mark the centenary: 'Making Life on Earth: Attenborough’s Greatest Adventure' and a new series, 'Secret Garden', fronted by Sir David.
