Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard believes Sunday's friendly with Leeds United was played in the right way.
The Midlands giants ran out 1-0 winners at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium in front of just over 40,000 people.
Danny Ings scored the decisive goal in what was a feisty and physical encounter which saw two players booked, including Archie Gray, who was taken off on a stretcher.
Asked by TribalFootball.com about his thoughts on the intensity of the game, Gerrard said: "I'm really pleased with large parts of the game, but there's still plenty to work on.
"I think in the main it was played in the right way, it got feisty for a short period. They're two Premier League teams that want to win a game, it's in your DNA.
"We wish the young kid well, John got the ball but he's been unlucky on the follow through. In the main it was played in the right way."
Danny Ings joined his manager in the post-match press conference and agreed with his assessment of the game.
The match-winner said: "When you have two PL teams going at it in front of 40,000 fans, it's always going to be good.
"I didn't think there was anything malicious in the game, it was just two Premier League teams going at it. I hope the young lad recovers pretty quickly too."
Villa now turn their attention to Wednesday's clash with Brisbane Roar in Townsville.
Gerrard said he would make some changes for the match, which he insists will be difficult after watching Roar play against Leeds in Gold Coast last week.
