Aston Villa striker Danny Ings is happy getting a full preseason under his belt.

The squad are preparing for games against Leeds United and Brisbane Roar in the Queensland Champions Cup.

But looking beyond the tournament, Ings knows the hard yards put in at their Gold Coast training base will go a long way towards helping Villa achieve their aims during the 2022/23 season.

“For me personally, it's huge. It really does give you the platform for the season, not just physically but also tactically and mentally," Ings told Villa's website.

“If you put the work in for however long the pre-season is, you give yourself the best chance going into the season."

He added: “The demands are there, which is so important for the team.

“Going into the season, having that full block of work is huge for us tactically to get an understanding of the way they want to play and how they want us to be.

“To get the numbers on the board, physically, it will all come together. It's been a good start so far."
