Liverpool agree deal for new goalkeeper – but he won’t arrive just yet

Liverpool have agreed a deal with Genk to sign Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans.

The 6ft 7in teenager is set to come to Anfield next summer and will be loaned back to Genk for the rest of this season.

Brughmans, a Belgium Under-19 goalkeeper, will join for an initial fee well below the £28m price that had been mooted.

Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson, is out of contract next summer while his deputy, Giorgi Mamardashvili, is attracting interest from Nottingham Forest now, though Liverpool do not want Brughmans to arrive just yet.

The 18-year-old has only played 13 league games for Genk and allowing him to stay there this season would let him get more first-team experience.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are likely to conclude the £106m deal for Bradley Barcola, who has undergone a medical, and will become their fourth summer signing, following Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and on-loan Ronald Araujo.
