Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward is moving on to another contract extension.
The Reds have secured striker Diogo Jota, tying him down to a deal that runs until 2027.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Ward will now turn his attention to Naby Keita.
The midfielder is out of contract in a year, but manager Jurgen Klopp does want to keep him.
Keita has struggled with injuries since arriving from RB Leipzig several years ago, but has impressed when in the team.
Romano stated through CaughtOffside: "One of the next players to sign a new contract at Liverpool may be Naby Keita.
"There have been preliminary negotiations with his representatives, but they are not yet at the final stage.
"Jota was a priority, after bringing in Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. Liverpool wanted to assure him he was still a valued member of the squad."
