"I think people who know this club and followed this club know that in this competition we use this for our younger players,” he told Sky Sports.
"That is one of the reasons. The other reason is we have only four of five injuries, but I have to play the same players. There are multiple reasons why we have lost so many games. With all the reasons, there is still no excuse to lose so many.
"If we keep playing the same players like I tried with Alexander Isak, players who have missed out on pre-season. It's another risk of getting an injury."

Arne Slot’s gamble fails miserably as Crystal Palace do the three-peat over Liverpool
22:06
,
Richard Jolly at Anfield
It is not a crisis to be eliminated from the Carabao Cup by this excellent Crystal Palace side. Not with 10 changes, with two debutants starting, three teenagers beginning the game, with a creche on the bench. Not even when it was Arne Slot’s heaviest defeat as Liverpool manager.
But for him and them, a second successive Anfield beating nevertheless compounded the wider sense that the wheels have fallen off, suddenly and stunningly. Liverpool have lost six of their last seven matches, and each of their last six in England. It is the sort of run which would have felt inconceivable when they went to Selhurst Park little more than a month ago, boasting a 100 percent record in both the Premier and the Champions League. In a rematch, Palace reinforced the sense they are Liverpool’s bogey side, and Ismaila Sarr their bogey player.
Richard Jolly reports from Anfield:

“Emphatic. Palace were excellent. Sarr continues to torment Liverpool and Pino is a terrific player. But it just gets worse for Slot and Liverpool. A sixth defeat in seven games felt likely from the minute the teams were announced but it was a pretty ignnominious night for both Slot and Amara Nallo, who now has two red cards in two senior appearances.”

“Ismaila Sarr scores against Liverpool for the third time this season, and in a third competition. Sadio Mane once wanted Liverpool to sign his Senegal teammate....

31 mins: SAVE! It’s the first time Woodman has been called into action, and positioning was key to that save.
Hughes catches it sweetly but Woodman is in the right spot to catch the ball.
He’s then quick to hoof it forward for Chiesa in a brilliant bit of distribution from the third-choice stopper, sparking a counter that Liverpool win a free-kick from.

28 mins: Once again it’s Ngumoha causing problems for Palace, going on a mazy run towards the edge of the box and drawing three defenders towards him before sliding Chiesa into the area.

14 mins: Liverpool comfortable with just ticking around the back before spotting the run of Chiesa, launching a ball for the Italian to try and latch onto. It’s well defended by Palace, who prevent the forward from getting in behind.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace prediction
19:30
,
Will Castle
Much has been made of Liverpool’a recent struggles both domestically and abroad, with the losses to Galatasaray and Brentford in particular raising questions for Arne Slot as he attempts to gel hundreds of millions of pounds worth of new talent.
While no complaints can be made about Liverpool’s summer spending, it turns out integrating even the most talented of players can prove difficult, as has been shown over the Reds’ last six matches, where they’ve lost five.
However, he may have finally run into some luck as his side face an out-of-form Palace team who have faltered in recent weeks despite starting the season well, with a shock loss to AEK Larnaca highlighting a drop in consistency.
Cody Gakpo could be the source of success for Liverpool tonight, who has emerged as the one player to have taken plenty of the attacking burden into his own hands of late.
Here’s our prediction for Liverpool vs Crystal Palace:

Arne Slot admits Trent Alexander-Arnold factor could play part in Mohamed Salah’s poor form
19:20
,
Will Castle
Ahead of the Brentford clash, Arne Slot played down Mohamed Salah’s slow start to season but admitted Liverpool’s adjustment to life without Trent Alexander-Arnold could be a factor.
“He played with Trent his whole Liverpool career, so it could (be that),” Slot said when asked about Salah’s drop in form. “He's been in promising positions often enough to score goals, but maybe with Trent even more.
“But in general, if you have quite a few changes in the summer you have to find new connections. Mo is not an exception to this because he’s also a human being, like all the others.”
Could Alexander-Arnold’s absence be the big problem?

'Palace the favourites'
19:03
,
Richard Jolly at Anfield
Here’s Richard Jolly inside Anfield:
“A remarkable line-up from Arne Slot, who rather risks a fifth consecutive defeat in England. The counter-argument may be that, with a week of Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City, he had to give all of his premier players a night off. But he makes 10 changes, giving debuts to Kieran Morrison and Freddie Woodman (aka Gareth Southgate's godson), just a second start in Calvin Ramsay and only a fourth to Trey Nyoni. Palace make five changes and are probably the favourites.”
When is the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw?
19:00
,
Will Castle
The draw will take place tonight following the conclusion of the fourth-round tie between Newcastle and Tottenham.
