Liverpool are charged with producing another Champions League comeback for the ages at Anfield as they look to flip their quarter-final tie with holders Paris Saint-Germain on its head.
Arne Slot’s side are fortunate to have left the French capital only be trailing by two after being outclassed by PSG last week, with goals from Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia proving the difference in a 2-0 defeat.
The Reds responded with an assured win over Fulham on the weekend, in which 17-year-old sensation Rio Ngumoha scored and starred, leading many to plead for Slot to start the electric winger for tonight’s seismic occasion.
But whether he features or not, Liverpool will need everyone firing against the relentless Parisians, who dumped them out of the competition on their way to the title last year.
After their emphatic FA Cup exit at Manchester City 10 days ago, Liverpool’s hopes of silverware now hinge entirely in Europe so this really is boom or bust for their season.

Almost a second for PSG as Barcola latches onto the through ball into the box and squares it to Dembele.
He manages to squeeze it past Mamardashvili but the space runs out and he can’t get a clear shot away.
GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 PSG (agg. 0-3) (Dembele, 73')

GOAL! And that will be that!
PSG counter and it’s worked wide to Barcola. He’s a little isolated but he finds Dembele just within the ‘D’.
The Frenchman shimmies and cuts back away from Mac Allister before curling a lovely effort low and past Mamardashvili for 1-0!

The hosts really have their tails up now and PSG are once again struggling to keep the ball, with the latest Liverpool attack requiring another last-ditch block from a PSG defender.

“Liverpool have been better with Gakpo than Isak, with Salah than Ekitike. They have had more of a threat in the second half.”

Liverpool responded to that decision by bringing on Rio Ngumoha for Joe Gomez.
The youngster wins a corner and Mac Allister heads wide at the near post.
PENALTY OVERTURNED! Liverpool 0-0 PSG
21:30 , Chris Wilson66 mins
The penalty is overturned! That’s a surprising decision, as it didn’t seem a clear and obvious error and there was clear contact in the area.

Liverpool get a warning of what can happen when you commit too many men forward as PSG suddenly break with a 3-v-2. However, Dembele went too early and was offside as he latched onto Kvaratskhelia’s through ball.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG

Dembele is almost sent clean through in the blink of an eye but Konate covered well, and the PSG man was offside anyway.

PSG have struggled to get out of their half in the last few minutes, though Liverpool haven’t quite managed to create a real clear-cut chance.
The hosts have all of the ball and are showing plenty of energy though, and Salah’s diagonal pass almost creates a great chance before Kerkez hits a half-cross, half-shot wide of the far post.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG

Lovely combinations from Salah and Wirtz as the latter is sent through by his teammate, but his touch is too heavy and Pacho clears.

Doue is the latest player forced off, and he makes way for Bradley Barcola.

It falls for Gakpo and he takes the shot early, forcing a good save from Safonov.
Gomez heads over from the corner, and while Doue is back on, he’s gone down again after limping around.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG
21:12 , Chris Wilson47 mins
A fairly bright start for the hosts as Salah’s ball in causes some pinball in the PSG area.
Moments later, another clipped ball in is headed over to Gakpo, but he can’t get in under control.
Up the other end, Doue might need treatment after colliding with a ball boy.
'Can Cody Gakpo turn destroyer of PSG'
21:10 , Richard JollyThe thoughts of Richard Jolly on those half-time subs from the hosts:
“So Isak lasted 45 minutes in which he had Liverpool's first effort on target of the tie but otherwise achieved little else. Can Cody Gakpo turn destroyer of PSG? Probably not.”

'PSG navigated that first half with few alarms'
20:58 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldThe half-time thoughts of Richard Jolly, who’s in place at Anfield tonight...
“PSG navigated that first half with few alarms. And given how wet it is at Anfield, navigated may be an appropriate word.”
HALF-TIME! Liverpool 0-0 PSG
20:54 , Chris WilsonThe first half comes to an end without anything else of note and both teams head in level at the break.
It’s been an entertaining half at Anfield and it’s a surprise that it’s ended level, as both sides missed huge chances.
Dembele will feel like he should have put PSG ahead, while at the other end Marquinhos did superbly well to prevent a certain goal as van Dijk’s eyes lit up.
It means the tie is still finely poised as we enter the second half, though it’ll be PSG who are the happier of the two sides – and the holders will feel they can punish the Reds in the second half is things stay the same.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG
20:51 , Chris Wilson45 +3 mins
Liverpool haven’t really been able to get out of their half as we approach the end of the first 45, with a couple of sloppy passes meaning they’ve given the ball away far too easily. They’ve arguably got away with a couple of sloppy PSG through balls too.

Great football from PSG as it’s worked wide to Hakimi in the the area. He looks to cut it across goal for Dembele but Konate reads it well.
Moments later, another half-chance falls to Dembele in the box but he hits a tame volley into the side-netting.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG

A strange attempt from Vitinha as he overlaps and receives Dembele’s pass in the box but opts for a sort of lobbed attempt when Kvaratskhelia was also free in the area.

Salah has looked lively since coming on and his next involvement sees him inadvertently win a corner as rain begins to sweep across Anfield.
The set-piece isn’t a great one but it does allow Gravenberch a second attempt at the cross, though the Dutchman’s cutback is to a PSG man.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG

Ekitike is not the only sub of the half, as PSG are now forced to bring off Nuno Mendes for Lucas Hernández.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG
20:41 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldThe latest from Richard Jolly at Anfield...
“Liverpool have been without the injured Alexander Isak for much of the season. Now they may worry Hugo Ekitike's campaign is over. He has been stretchered off.
“It hasn't been the reunion with PSG he wanted. He had little service last week. He has been on the right wing tonight. Now that role goes back to Mohamed Salah.”
Liverpool 0-0 PSG
20:38 , Chris Wilson35 mins
A dangerous opening for PSG as Vitinha slids it through to Dembele. He’s 2-v-1 as Kerkez and co. desperately try and get back, and luckily for the hosts his pass out wide doesn’t have enough on it.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG

CLOSE! An immediate involvement for Salah and it almost brings Liverpool a goal!
The ball falls to him near the box and he clips in a lovely cross that is hit goalwards at the back post.
Safonov gets down brilliantly to save it but can only push it out as far as van Dijk. The Dutchman looks certain to tap in from point-blank range but Marquinhos dives in to block and divert it away!

Liverpool’s higher pressing has worked against them on a couple of occasions but it’s almost paid off once or twice too, and at the very least it’s unsettling PSG much more than last week.
There’s a brief break in play as Hugo Ekitike is down and receiving treatment.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG

Half a chance for PSG as the ball across reaches Doue at the back post, but rather than hit it first-time he opts to take a touch and he accidentally leaves the ball behind!
Liverpool 0-0 PSG
20:27 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldThe latest thoughts of Richard Jolly, who’s in place at Anfield this evening...
“Liverpool have changed tactics dramatically from the first leg, from a deep back five to a back four with a high defensive line. It may cost them, and Dembele has had two chances when PSG have got in behind.”
Liverpool 0-0 PSG

That was a real let-off for Liverpool, but can the hosts take advantage?
They’re looking comfortable in possession but it just isn’t clicking in advanced areas so far.
They do manage to send Isak clean through but the Swedish striker had strayed offside, and his tame effort was saved by Safonov.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG
20:22 , Chris Wilson17 mins
CLOSE! The best chance of the game so far and Ousmane Dembele will wonder how he’s not at least hit the target.
It’s a well-worked chance from PSG, as Kvaratskhelia clips a ball across the box. It’s hit over the defender into the path of Dembele, and he’s only a few yards out as he hits the half-volley on the turn, but he blasts it over the bar!
Liverpool 0-0 PSG
20:19 , Chris Wilson16 mins
The hosts win a free-kick from deep and Mac Allister lays it off to Szoboszlai. The cross is isn’t a bad one and it falls to Gravenberch on the edge of the box, but he scuffs his shot and Safonov punches it clear.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG
20:18 , Chris Wilson14 mins
Ekitike has been the brightest player for the hosts so far, and he does well to hold the ball up before Frimpong’s cross has too much on it.
Liverpool 0-0 PSG
20:15 , Chris Wilson12 mins
PSG have given away far too easily in key areas on a couple of occasions already, though this time a poor touch from Kerkez means the hosts can’t capitalise.
The hosts try to spread it out wide but again Szoboszlai’s pass just isn’t good enough.
Not a bad start from Liverpool nonetheless!
Liverpool 0-0 PSG

Neither side has dominated the opening exchanges of this one, though both have settled well in possession.
PSG are looking the more dangerous though, and they have the first real chance of the game as Mamardashvili comes off his line to clear.
His clearance falls straight to a PSG shirt though, and the Georgian does well to pull off a good stop as he scrambled back towards his goal line.

Liverpool are roared forward early on but Szoboszlai’s pass is a poor one.
PSG go up the other end and Doue finds Dembele in the box, though his attempted squared pass across goal is intercepted.
Surprise formation
20:04 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldIf the team selection was a surprise, the formation may be, too, given the personnel. It looks like a 4-2-3-1 with Ekitike on the right and Mac Allister as a No 10.

Fowler: 'It doesn't make sense'
19:51 , Chris WilsonRobbie Fowler is perplexed at Slot’s comments on Isak. The former Liverpool striker had this to say on Amazon Prime:
“I can't believe he's done that. He has come out and more or less given the tactic away, straight away. If he changes after 45 minutes, there is going to be a change in the tactics, formation or dynamics of Liverpool. It doesn't make sense for me.”

Slot reveals Isak will see limited minutes
19:45 , Chris WilsonLiverpool boss Arne Slot has revealed that Alexander Isak “will not be able to play much more than 45 minutes” this evening as the striker continues his return from injury.
“The thinking is that we need to score goals and there are goals in these players. They are two target men, two players we can play in to. As you might not know, Isak will not be able to play much more than 45 minutes - with the possibility of extra time, it makes sense for me to start him.
“We need to do a few things well, but I don't think it's that much about tactics this time. You have to match their intensity off the ball,” explained the Liverpool boss.
On the state of play before kick-off, he added: “I have felt a lift already when we arrived. We will probably feel it more when we go out for the warm-up and even more when we go out to play. We need to be at our best and our fans to be at their best."
The logic of Alexander Isak's starting berth
19:43 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldThe logic behind starting Alexander Isak is that Liverpool are not sure how long he can play so, with the possibility of extra time, Arne Slot thinks it is better he plays from the off, rather than potentially having to substitute a substitute.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot: We know we need an exceptional performance against PSG
19:40 , Chris WilsonArne Slot accepts Liverpool can be nothing short of “exceptional” if they are to add to the list of magical European nights at Anfield against Paris St Germain on Tuesday.
Liverpool failed to register a shot on target and were outclassed in the French capital last week as European champions PSG claimed a 2-0 win in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
But the Reds have staged several unlikely European comebacks, most recently overturning a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona by winning 4-0 on Merseyside en route to lifting the Champions League trophy in 2019.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot: We know we need an exceptional performance against PSG
Match stats
19:33 , Chris WilsonLiverpool have lost four games in the Champions League this season, which is their joint-most in a single campaign. The last time they lost four was in 2018/19, though they went on to win the trophy that season!
Interestingly for the Reds, Florian Wirtz has created more chances from open play than any other player in the competition this season, while Dominik Szoboszlai has created more chances from set-pieces than any other player.
Head-to-head
19:27 , Chris WilsonThese two sides have met just five times previously in European competition, with PSG winning two and Liverpool winning three.
The most notable match-up between the two came last season in the round of 16, when table-topping Liverpool secured a dramatic late win courtesy of Harvey Elliott before PSG reversed that result and eventually won on penalties at Anfield.
Will we see another positive result for the holders tonight, or can Liverpool mount another historic European comeback?
The key decisions Arne Slot must make with Liverpool requiring another famous European comeback
19:20 , Chris WilsonArne Slot referenced his distinctive look. “I tend to think of myself that my brains are not the worst part of my head,” said the Liverpool head coach. “The hair is not growing a lot but I can remember a lot.” If it means Slot can remember three games against Paris Saint-Germain, from the smash-and-grab win in the Parc des Princes last season to the one-sided defeat in the French capital last week, that brainpower will be required to devise a blueprint to eliminate the holders from the Champions League.
Slot has to be psychologist as well as strategist. He started off by reminding his players Liverpool were only 2-0 down. “It felt completely different,” he admitted. A side who failed to muster a shot on target in Paris need a minimum of two goals, and probably more. Slot has also turned mathematician in his attempts to instil optimism.

PSG team news
19:05 , Chris WilsonLuis Enrique has named an unchanged side from last week at the parc des Princes. PSG did not have a game at the weekend and so the Spaniard had no new injury concerns, so it is no surprise to see the settled midfield trio of Warren Zaire-Emery, Vitinha and Joao Neves starting.
In attack, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia keep their places despite the return of Bradley Barcola, while Ousmane Dembele once again leads the attack.
Liverpool team news
19:00 , Chris WilsonArne Slot has made five changes to the side that beat Fulham 2-0 at Anfield at the weekend. Only one change is in defence, where Milos Kerkez replaces Andy Robertson.
In midfield. Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister come in ahead of Curtis Jones and Mo Salah, with the latter dropped to the bench and Dominik Szobozlai presumably moved into a more attacking role.
Elsewhere, Rio Ngomoha and Cody Gakpo come out of the attack in favour of Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.

Team news
18:40 , Chris WilsonThe line-ups could be released at any point from within the next five minutes, so here’s a reminder of the early team news for both sides...
Curtis Jones went off on Saturday holding his groin but trained ahead of the second leg. Alisson Becker remains out injured while Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch and Milos Kerkez are likely to return after being rested at the weekend.
As for PSG, Luis Enrique’s side did not have a game this weekend but Bradley Barcola has returned to the visiting squad.
What has Slot said?
18:30 , Chris WilsonLiverpool boss Arne Slot said he knows his side need to be exceptional this evening if they are to turn this tie around at Anfield.
“There is a belief that we can do special things tomorrow but we need to be very, very, very special tomorrow to achieve that because we are playing against the champions of Europe,” explained the Dutchman.
“The approach is not so different for tomorrow than it was in Paris – for the people who know me, I never put out a team and tell them to go to a low block for 90 minutes.
“I think we have to find the perfect balance between being offensive. But to be offensive you need to have the ball and to get the ball back.
“I think we have to be much, much, much better than we were last week. Their players are experienced players, they have experienced Anfield a year ago, so they think that they know what's coming up. So, I can only hope that our fans can find an extra gear compared to last season, which I'd argue if it's possible because the atmosphere last season was unbelievable,” he added.

Captain Van Dijk says improvement is essential and has called on fans to fuel a revival.

How seven Premier League teams could qualify for the Champions League after clinching fifth spot
18:07 , Chris WilsonThe Premier League could boast seven clubs in next season’s Champions League if all the right pieces fall into place – but now we know five will be guaranteed.
The extra place was sealed after Arsenal emerged 1-0 victors at Sporting in their quarter-final first leg, with Kai Havertz snatching a late winner in Lisbon.

At the same time, only Barcelona and Atletico Macdrid have overperformed their xG more than PSG have.
Dominik Szoboszlai explains ‘misunderstanding’ over clash with Liverpool fans
17:52 , Chris WilsonDominik Szoboszlai feels his flashpoint with Liverpool fans this month was a “misunderstanding” as the Hungarian insisted he is “ready to die on the pitch” against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
Social media footage showed Szoboszlai shrugging, raising his arms and clapping, widely interpreted as sarcasm, towards Reds supporters after a heavy 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Manchester City.
The midfielder was ushered away by team-mate Federico Chiesa amid a chorus of boos at the final whistle but Szoboszlai, regarded as Liverpool’s best player this season, played down the incident.
Match stats
17:45 , Chris WilsonNone of the seven meetings between these two sides have ended in draws, with two of Liverpool’s three wins coming at Anfield.
PSG won 1-0 at Anfield last season in the last 16 on their way to winning the trophy for the first time. The only sides to win consecutive away games in Europe against the Reds are Barcelona and Atalanta, though neither of those came in consecutive campaigns.

The Liverpool gamble that backfired against PSG – but might have kept their Champions League chances alive
17:22 , Richard JollyHere’s the report from the first leg courtesy of Senior Football Writer Richard Jolly...
The good news for Liverpool is that they do not require their greatest Anfield comeback in Europe. But if that tag will forever be reserved for Barcelona in 2019, it may need their second best to eliminate Paris Saint-Germain.
A night when Arne Slot abandoned the basis of his system – and, some would say, his principles – in favour of pragmatism brought a damage-limitation exercise that might be bracketed as a qualified success. Because Liverpool, walloped 4-0 at Manchester City on Saturday, only lost 2-0 to the European champions. Liverpool looked outclassed. They are not quite out of this tie.

The Reds were dominated in a 2-0 defeat at the Parc des Princes last week but a cautious approach from Arne Slot’s side means they are still in the tie.
They will have to show more attacking threat, however, while keeping out a PSG forward line that looked devastating at times in the first leg in Paris.
