Local businesses must tap Sabah’s economic growth, says Ewon

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah businesses must strengthen their capabilities to participate in the State’s economic growth as new investments and development opportunities continue to emerge, said Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick.

Ewon, who is also Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister, said Sabah’s resources and economic potential must be translated into stronger industries, competitive local businesses, quality employment and greater economic opportunities for the people.

He said small and medium enterprises, local entrepreneurs and companies should be supported to expand and compete at national, regional and international levels, in line with the Sabah First approach.

“As the State’s economy grows and new investments come into Sabah, our local businesses must be ready to participate in the supply chain, develop the necessary capabilities and seize the opportunities created by this growth,” he said at CEO Masterclass 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre here Tuesday.

Ewon said quality investments should create wider economic spillovers by generating opportunities for local companies, strengthening domestic supply chains, developing local talent, facilitating technology and knowledge transfer and creating quality jobs for Sabahans.
