Locals held for having ketum juice

PENAMPANG: Two local men were arrested with more than 30,000 milliliters of suspected ketum juice were seized during a police raid at a car workshop in Putatan, near here.

The operation was conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Penampang District Police Headquarters (IPD) following a tip-off.

Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton, said the raid discovered a total of 20 plastic bottles containing ketum liquid and a packet of green powder, believed to be processed ketum, weighing 3,282.57gm.

Both tested negative for drugs and had no prior criminal records,” he said in a statement, here, on Thursday.

Sammy said the case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

“The suspects may face a fine of up to RM10,000, imprisonment of up to four years, or both, in conviction,” he said.

Both individuals are currently remanded as investigations continue.

Sammy also urged the public to assist police efforts by reporting any information related to drug or ketum activities.
