PROMINENT lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla has weighed in on claims raised by former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli on TikTok, where Rafizi suggested possible abuse of power involving the Prime Minister’s Office and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Haniff stressed that such serious accusations must be handled through formal channels, not broadcast on social media.

He argued that if there were indeed elements of political interference targeting party members, the individuals who say they were victimised should be the ones filing complaints.

“That responsibility lies with those directly affected — not outsiders,” he said firmly.

The lawyer also questioned Rafizi’s decision to speak about the matter publicly without submitting an official report.

“If he believes what he’s saying is true, then he should lodge the complaint himself — not rant about it on TikTok. If he refuses to take legal action, that’s a sign of cowardice,” Haniff remarked.

Haniff further noted that Rafizi, having allegedly contacted the Prime Minister for clarification, is in the best position to determine whether any misconduct occurred involving the country’s leadership or MACC.

“So why hasn’t he filed a report? Ask him that,” he added.

According to Haniff, only two parties have the legitimacy to initiate such a complaint — the alleged victims, or Rafizi himself since he is the one making the claims.

“You don’t reveal this to the public first. Reports must come through the proper process,” he said.

Rafizi, in a recent podcast, alleged that several PKR members faced MACC investigations after falling out of favour with certain figures in the party.

He also claimed similar pressure was exerted on members who contested against Nurul Izzah Anwar for the party’s deputy presidency.

MACC has since denied Rafizi’s accusations branding it as baseless and false. – December 7, 2025
