London airport defends drop-off prices after second hike in a year

  • London Luton Airport has increased its passenger drop-off fee for the second time in a year, raising the charge to £9 for up to 12 minutes.
  • Overstays will incur a charge of £1 per minute up to a maximum stay of 30 minutes, following a previous fee increase to £7 in late September 2025.
  • Airport management stated the price hike aims to encourage the use of sustainable transport modes and maintain efficient traffic flow around the terminal.
  • Drivers dropping off passengers in fully electric vehicles can receive a reduced tariff in Terminal Car Park 1, whilst the long stay car park offers two hours of free parking.
  • According to RAC analysis, more than three-quarters of UK airports have introduced or raised drop-off fees over the past year, with Gatwick and Stansted charging the highest rate of £10.
