Major London airport raises drop off fees for second time in a year

A major London airport has increased its drop-off fees for the second time in a year.

Drivers taking passengers to London Luton airport must now pay £9 for 12 minutes in the drop-off zone.

London Luton airport last raised its drop-off fee by 40 per cent to £7 for 10 minutes in late September 2025.

Overstays will be charged at £1 per minute, with a 30-minute maximum stay applied.

The airport said the move is “to encourage the use of more sustainable modes of transport to and from the airport, and to maintain efficient traffic flow in and around the terminal”.

It added that passengers being dropped off or picked up in a fully electric vehicle are eligible for a reduced tariff when using Terminal Car Park 1 only.

The fee must be paid online or by phone by midnight the day after your visit to avoid additional fees.

Travellers can also use two hours free parking for drop-off or pick-ups in Luton’s long stay car park.

More than three-quarters of UK airports have hiked or introduced drop-off fees for drivers over the past year.

Some 16 out of 20 airports surveyed by the RAC have increased their "kiss and fly" charges – levied for dropping off passengers as close to the terminal as possible – since last summer.

This has led to an average cost increase of a third.

Gatwick and Stansted airports have been found to charge the highest drop-off fees for drivers in the UK, according to analysis from RAC.

The airports charge £10 for 10 minutes and 15 minutes, respectively.

Free bus travel was offered to London Luton passengers travelling to and from the airport in August, encouraging customers to leave cars at home ahead of its busiest summer on record.
