SANDAKAN: The General Welfare Services Department (JPKA) Sandakan Division is requesting the next of kin of three children to come forward to assist in the investigation regarding custody matters.

Sandakan Division Custodian, Erdianna Kanin, said the first child, a baby boy is eight months old.

She said the child was abandoned by a man in his 30s when he was three months old.

She said the man involved had asked a member of the public known as Noormuhminen Mohd Al-Yamin to look after his baby while he bought goods at the Sedco 2 Kinabatangan town store on April 29 2022 at about 4pm.

“The person concerned waited for the man but he did not show up.”

“The next day the person went back to Sedco 2 Kinabatangan town to search for the man and asked around the area but no one recognised him,” he added.

Erdianna said the person concerned then referred the case to her and made a police report on May 5 2022 after being advised to do so.

As for the second child, Sandakan Division Custodian, Nurhafiza Abdul Rahman, said the child was known as Norain and was born on July 18 2022 and she’s one year and three months old.

She said in a police report on Sept 6 2022 made by the complainant known as Samriati Samsul, who stated that she had taken care of a child named Norain.

Samriati took the child when she was three months old from his biological mother named Marry Juning in Kampung Jawa 2, Batu 12, Sandakan on October 29 2021, after the biological mother handed over the child to the guardian as she was looking for a job.

According to her, the child’s biological mother disappeared and could not be contacted after that.

The relative of an 11-year-old 6-month-old boy was also asked to come forward to help in the investigation regarding custody matters.

This child, known as Mohammad lrpan Abdullah, is a victim of neglect.

The complainant, known as Arbadul Munung, 55, came to see the custodian informing that he had been the guardian of the child since he was eight months old when he was handed over by his biological mother known as Wilma Wilson in 2011 at the complainant’s house in Tanah Merah, Jalan Leila, Sandakan.

The complainant also lodged a police report on Oct 17 2022, informing that the child’s parents did not live in Sabah.

In a statement here recently, Nurhafiza and Erdianna asked the next of kin of the three children to come forward and help in investigations to facilitate all matters related to the three children.

This case was being prosecuted under Section 17(1)(d) of the Children Act 2001 (Amendment 2016).
