kunak: The Consumer Front of Sabah (CFOS) has promised to investigate uneven electricity distribution affecting businesses in Simpang Empat, here, which are experiencing inconsistent power supply compared to other commercial areas in the town centre.

Its President Nordin Thani assured that his organisation will examine complaints from affected traders and take necessary action to address the power distribution problems plaguing the locality.

“I will contact Sabah Electricity (SE) in Kota Kinabalu to verify this matter so that action can be taken to help the affected businesses,” Nordin told Daily Express.

Despite SE deploying a mobile generator to Kunak on Tuesday, power disruptions continue in Simpang Empat, while electricity distribution appears more concentrated on business premises in Kunak town centre.

The four-day power disruption, stemming from electrical supply disruptions along the east coast, has forced several retail traders in Simpang Empat to temporarily close their operations. Laundry services and vehicle workshops have also been severely affected.

Affected locations include premises at Simpang Empat housing restaurants, retail outlets, salons and bakeries in the Dalsan Building along Jalan Kunak-Lahad Datu.

These areas only receive power supply late at night, well outside business operating hours.

Meanwhile, a workshop owner in Simpang Empat said his workers cannot perform vehicle maintenance requiring machinery after the premises went without power for nine hours during daytime operations.

“Only minor repairs using manual tools can be carried out,” said the workshop owner on Jalan Taman Sri Idaman.

The SE’s official Facebook page has issued a statement regarding the electricity supply schedule for Kunak under Feeder KNAK03, covering Simpang Empat and several villages in the Madai Zone.

However, consumers claim the distribution schedule is inaccurate as they fail to receive power supply as stated for the specified time periods.
