Lopez orders completion of stalled DPWH projects

PUBLIC Works Secretary Giovanni Lopez said he has ordered the completion of all projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Lopez issued the statement during the reopening of a road in Tuba, Benguet, on Fridaay.

”If you recall, Secretary Vince Dizon visited this site in May 2026, and iThe nstructed the regional director and district engineering officials to address the problem here,” Lopez said.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently ordered a Cabinet reshuffle where Dizon and Lopez swapped places. Dizon returned to head the Department of Transportation to address mass transit and daily commuter issues, while Lopez assumed leadership of the DPWH to institutionalize ongoing anti-corruption and transparency reforms.

The road in Benguet, Lopez said, had been operating on a one-way basis since 2025, causing inconvenience to residents and motorists.

Lopez said the concerned DPWH officials were ordered to complete the work in five months.

”We will hold them to their commitment,” he said.

Lopez added that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants the road opened for the All Saints’ Day travel rush.

”The President’s instruction is that whatever commitments Secretary Vince made and whatever projects were delayed must be continued,” he said.

”That commitment is not just to the President or to Secretary Vince. Above all, it is a commitment to the Filipino people,” Lopez added.
