TAWAU: A 43-year-old lorry attendant was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a rigid lorry along Jalan Timur near SMK Kabota, here, at about 3.30pm on Monday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said police received information about the accident, involving a motorcycle and a Nissan rigid lorry, at about 4.11pm.
“Initial investigations at the scene found that the accident occurred when the 62-year-old local male lorry driver was driving alone from Air Panas towards Eastern Engineering along Jalan Timur“The motorcyclist was travelling in the opposite direction before entering the lorry’s path, believed to be after he lost control of his motorcycle, resulting in the collision,” he said, Tuesday.
Rosdi said a medical officer who examined the victim at the scene subsequently confirmed that the motorcyclist had died from severe injuries to his head and legs.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death,” he said.
Rosdi also urged members of the public who witnessed the accident or have information related to the incident to come forward to the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) to assist with investigations.
