KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — Police have detained a 40-year-old lorry driver over a crash involving a motorcycle on Jalan Gurun-Jeniang yesterday that killed a 12-year-old boy.

The victim, Muhammad Ilham Firdaus Mohamad Iruan, 12, died at the scene from severe injuries.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the suspect was detained to assist investigations into the crash, Harian Metro reported.

“The suspect was remanded for three days from today to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said when contacted today.

In the crash yesterday, the victim is believed to have been riding a motorcycle when it collided with the rear left side of a lorry at the scene.

The victim’s 14-year-old friend, who was riding pillion, escaped with minor scratches and cuts to his hands and legs.

The deceased was a Year Six pupil at a school in Paya Mak Insun, Pendang, and lived in Kampung Paya Mak Insun, Ayer Puteh, Pendang.

The pillion rider is from Kampung Batu 3, Jalan Jeniang, and is a Form Two student at a secondary school in Batu 5, Gurun.
