Lottie Woad storms into lead at Evian Championship as Nelly Korda misses cut

Lottie Woad carded five birdies in her last eight holes on her way to a seven-under 64 to take the outright lead of the Evian Championship.

The 22-year-old, at the French venue where she secured her LPGA Tour card and decided to turn professional a year ago, reached the turn in three under for the day, but her first bogey at the 10th sparked the run which lifted her to 11 under – one better than first-round leader Aki Iwai.

“I hit a lot of fairways and greens, which is definitely the key around here. If you get in trouble off the tee, it can be pretty difficult," Woad said. “The driver is clicking, I’ve been very good off the tee. If you do that you can have a lot of wedges and chances.”

Fellow Englishwoman Charley Hull, also trying to win her first major, shot a 70 to sit five back in a share of fifth on six under.

However, world No 1 Nelly Korda, who has won two majors already this year, missed her first cut in two years after leaving short a birdie putt at the last which would have qualified her for the weekend, signing for a 69 and a one-over total.
