MANILA, Philippines – The state-run weather agency said on Tuesday that a low pressure area (LPA) has been spotted off Mindanao and has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
Nathaniel Servando, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) chief, said the weather disturbance was estimated some 1,000 kilometers (kms) east of Southeastern Mindanao.
It will be known locally as "Ada" once the LPA becomes a tropical depression and will be the first storm to be hitting the country in 2026, according to the Pagasa chief.
The national weather bureau said in its 4 p.m. advisory that Davao Region, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Sarangani, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte would likely have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of LPA.
While Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be experiencing isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies, other parts of the country will be affected by the northeast monsoon ("amihan') and localized thunderstorms, the weather agency said.
