MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Energy (DOE) on Tuesday announced that the price of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) has spiked to beyond P1,000 in April as the war in the Middle East impacted supply.
According to the agency's monitoring data in Metro Manila and highly urbanized areas, LPG prices have soared between P1,141.00 to P1,630.43 per 11-kilogram tank (for household use) from P954.00 to 1,227.50 per 11-kilogram tank back in March.
"The price jump in LPG was huge because of the war in the Middle East, and made our usual trade routes were not feasible anymore. Moreover risk premiums have also balooned as well," Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said in a media briefing on Tuesday.
Garin said the LPG has an average daily demand of 10,274.38 kiloliters from April to September 2025, the third highest among fuel products.
In contrast, kerosene has an average daily demand of 142.14 kL, jet fuel at 6,320.48 kL, fuel oil at 2,472.76, kerosene at 142.14 kL, gasoline at 23,326.46 kL, and diesel at 32,516 kL, which is the highest among fuel products.
