Fenerbahce have announced a move for Arsenal attacker Mesut Ozil is a non-starter.
The Ozil link has been made because of the Germany international's Turkish heritage and he is married to former Miss Turkey Amine Gulse.
It had been billed as the biggest deal in Turkish football history but he is definitely not going to Fenerbahce and the Turkish club are distancing themselves from reports that he is about to join them on loan.
It remains to be seen if another club comes in for him.
"Mesut Ozil, with his career and standing, successfully represents our country abroad. He is an important value known with the identity of Fenerbahce," a statement said.
"However, Fenerbahce does not have a proposal for Mesut Ozil. Under the current economic conditions, such a step is not possible for both parties.
"Our president, Ali Koc, made statements on the subject on June 20 and emphasised that this could not be realised in the short term."
