MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), private operator of LRT-1, assured commuters on Thursday that it has addressed a water leak inside a fourth-generation Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) that was traced to a faulty air-conditioning valve.
Its maintenance team deployed a technician to assess the situation, the LRMC said in a statement to The Manila Times.
The LRT operator said the train was transported to the depot for a thorough inspection.
The team identified the cause of the leak as a defective drain line valve in the air-conditioning unit (ACU).
The faulty valve has since been replaced, and the unit is now undergoing rigorous safety and performance checks to ensure full operational integrity, it said.
As part of its commitment to continuous improvement, the LRMC said it was enhancing its maintenance protocols by doubling the inspection frequency for ACU drain valves—from every 10,000 kilometers, as specified in the standard manual, to every 5,000 kilometers.
In the longer term, the company also plans to proactively replace these valves across the entire fleet to help prevent similar occurrences.
