Keretapi Sarong 2026 turns LRT and MRT stations into vibrant Hari Malaysia celebrations filled with culture
LRT AND MRT stations were packed with commuters today, but instead of the usual complaints over crowded trains and stations, passengers were in a celebratory mood as they took part in the Keretapi Sarong 2026 event in conjunction with Hari Malaysia.
Hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of Malaysians turned up in colourful traditional attire, transforming public transport stations into vibrant gathering spots filled with music, dancing and patriotic spirit.
Unlike a typical working day, when large crowds can often draw complaints from commuters, the atmosphere today was markedly different, with passengers appearing to embrace the festive crowds.
Social media was filled with photographs and videos of people cheering, singing and dancing together, waving Malaysian flags and even taking part in impromptu catwalk shows.
LRT and MRT stations were transformed into mini festival-like venues as participants gathered ahead of the celebrations.
One man posted photographs of the crowd at KL Sentral, describing the atmosphere as “vibing”.
At Kajang Station, a group of youths could be seen playing the kompang as they made their way down an escalator while carrying Malaysian flags, adding to the festive mood.
Across the country, Malaysians from different cultural backgrounds dressed in colourful sarongs, modern kebayas, baju kurung and other traditional outfits.
For a day, the normally hectic public transport network became a colourful celebration of Malaysia’s diverse cultures, with commuters turning their daily journeys into a display of patriotism, unity and togetherness.
