MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said it had completed the distribution of fuel subsidies to taxi drivers, releasing a total of P135 million to help cushion the impact of rising fuel costs on the transport sector.
In a statement issued Sunday, LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said 5,440 taxi drivers received P5,000 each on April 25, amounting to P27.2 million in assistance. The payout was extended until 9 p.m. to accommodate all qualified beneficiaries present at designated sites.
The previous day’s rollout covered around 2,000 drivers, with roughly P10 million released.
Mendoza said that fuel subsidies for other public utility vehicle (PUV) sectors have also been distributed, partly through checks issued to transport service entities in various regions to facilitate payouts to their members.
He credited coordination among government personnel and stakeholders for the smooth rollout of the program.
Beyond the one-time P5,000 assistance, the LTFRB said it is working with the Department of Energy and Land Bank of the Philippines on the implementation of a P10-per-liter fuel discount scheme for PUV operators nationwide.
