MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) suspended for 30 days the operation of a passenger bus that rammed the concrete and plastic barriers of the EDSA Busway in Quezon City.
LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II told The Manila Times on Monday that the agency has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the Partas Transportation Co. Inc., the owner of the passenger bus that figured in a road crash at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 26.
“In this case, we will be looking at either employment of reckless drivers or the workload of the drivers. We want to know all the details and this will come out during the course of the investigation,” Mendoza said.
Initial report showed that the bus was travelling southbound or coming from EDSA–Quezon Avenue flyover and heading toward Timog Avenue, when the driver allegedly fell asleep, causing the crash.
According to the LTFRB chief, the incident was a violation of the existing rules and regulations on safe public transportation and also falls into the reckless driving category.
In the SCO, the operator was asked to explain why its franchise should not be cancelled and also ordered to have the driver undergo a road safety seminar and drug test, among others.
The bus operator was also informed of its obligation to pay the damaged government properties, the LTFRB said.
