MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued show cause orders (SCOs) against two content creators involved in producing social media content that depicted dangerous and irresponsible traffic violations.
LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said on Saturday that an initial investigation identified the drivers and registered owners of the two vehicles that were used in the viral social media content, which prompted the filing of SCOs.
Based on the video uploaded on the Facebook page "Mineya Pilyo," one vehicle was seen deliberately colliding with another as part of the produced content, according to the agency.
The actions depicted in the videos were alarming as they could lead to road hazards and accidents. Some may find them entertaining or humorous, but for the LTO, there is nothing funny about content that endangers the lives and safety of motorists, Lacanilao said.
“We will not tolerate any activity that turns into a joke or a source of profit situations that may expose the public to danger. We will ensure that the LTO takes appropriate action against these violations," Lacanilao vowed.
It was also apparent that one of the content creators was not wearing a seatbelt during the filming of the video, the agency said.
They have been directed to appear before the LTO's Intelligence and Investigation Division at a scheduled hearing to submit the required documents and sworn statements, and to explain why they should not be held liable for violations of reckless driving and failure to wear a seatbelt, according to the top LTO official.
“They must also justify why the drivers' licenses should not be suspended or permanently revoked on the ground of being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle,” he said.
The LTO said the two would be placed under a 90‑day preventive suspension while the investigation was ongoing.
