
Four players from the district played a key role in state’s bronze medal-winning campaign at the 31st Sub-Junior National Baseball Championship.
The tournament was held at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from May 24 to 29.
Mankirat Singh from Ludhiana captained the team with distinction throughout the tournament. Along with him, Chirag, Ayush and Ratan Kumar represented the district and made valuable contributions.
Punjab was unbeaten in the league stage, registering convincing victories over Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. It overpowered Andhra Pradesh in the quarter-finals. Although the team suffered a setback against Maharashtra in the semi-finals, the players bounced back strongly to defeat Delhi 9-5 in the bronze medal match.
Adding to the state’s celebrations, Punjab player Karamveer Singh was adjudged the best catcher of the tournament for his exceptional performance.
Punjab Baseball Association officials congratulated the players and coaching staff, and expressed confidence the state’s young baseball talent will continue to shine in future competitions.
