Colombian winger Luis Diaz’s relentless work ethic and key contributions have been central to Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga and Champions League charge this season

LUIS Diaz has cemented his status as a core component of Vincent Kompany’s title-winning Bayern Munich side.

The Colombian’s selflessness and relentless work rate have been pivotal in elevating the Bavarian giants this campaign.

Bayern legend Philipp Lahm highlighted Diaz’s unique contribution to the team’s outstanding success.

“What sets him apart is that he’s also a worker,” Lahm told AFP on Sunday.

Lahm praised Diaz’s aggression and his ability to work effectively in both defensive and offensive directions.

Diaz has notched an impressive 15 goals and 13 assists in 28 league matches so far this season.

His statistics now fully match the importance he has shown throughout his career at multiple clubs.

The left winger has won league titles at every senior club he has played for, including Junior, Porto, Liverpool and now Bayern.

Diaz possesses a rare penchant for scoring spectacular, crucial goals from seemingly impossible situations.

His incredible strike against Union Berlin in November was later named the Bundesliga’s goal of the month.

A similar moment of magic came in the Champions League against Real Madrid last week.

His 89th-minute goal in the quarter-final second leg broke Madrid’s resistance and effectively sealed Bayern’s semi-final place.

Speaking after the match, Diaz ranked that decisive goal among the very best of his career.

“It is one of my favorites and the one with the most meaning, given the moment in the game,” he said.

His former club Liverpool have clearly felt his absence during a stuttering campaign this season.

The Reds have struggled to replace Diaz’s unique blend of energy, unpredictability and defensive work rate.

Diaz could now cap his outstanding debut season in Munich with a first Champions League title.

“We are very focused on what we want, which is to reach the Champions League final,” he said.

The winger is determined to end the season with what he described as a “happy ending” for Bayern.
