Luistro named lead House impeachment prosecutor

MANILA, Philippines — Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville Luistro was named as the lead prosecutor of the House of Representatives for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

The House's 11-member prosecution panel entered its appearance before the Senate impeachment court at 5:32 p.m. on Monday.

House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil filed the Formal Entry of Appearance on behalf of the prosecutors elected last May 12 by the House. In the document, Luistro, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Justice, was named lead public prosecutor.

Also part of the House's prosecution panel were Bicol Saro Rep. Terry Ridon, 1-Rider Rep. Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez, San Juan City Rep. Ysabel Maria Zamora, Iloilo 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor, Akbayan Rep. Jose Manuel Diokno, Mamamayang Liberal Rep. Leila de Lima, Dinagat Islands Rep. Arlene Bag-ao, Bukidnon 2nd District Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores, Cagayan de Oro 1st District Rep. Lordan Suan, and Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua.

Voting 257-25 with nine abstentions, the House impeached Duterte last May 11 and sent the impeachment articles to the Senate.
